What the evidence shows: liposuction
12 peer-reviewed sourcesLiposuction removes localized fat deposits to refine body contour, and the before/after images here show how it can reshape areas such as the abdomen, flanks, thighs, arms, and chin. Across the published literature, patient satisfaction with body shape and self-image is generally high, and contour improvements are durable when body weight stays stable afterward. Liposuction is a contouring procedure rather than a weight-loss treatment, so the magnitude of change depends on the starting anatomy, the volume removed, and skin quality. Most reported complications are minor (swelling, bruising, contour irregularities, temporary numbness), while serious events are rare and strongly linked to large-volume cases, combined procedures, and the care setting. Several reviews below also examine newer energy-assisted techniques and the use of liposuction in conditions like lipedema. The selection includes systematic reviews, meta-analyses, large case series, and long-term and patient-reported outcome studies.
