Open, closed, revision: why the price differs
In an open rhinoplasty, the surgeon makes a small cut across the strip of skin between the nostrils to see the nose's structure; in a closed one, all incisions are inside the nose. Open surgery averages $9,144 and closed $7,245. Revision rhinoplasty, which corrects an earlier operation, is the most expensive at $14,574 because correcting an earlier operation is more complex. Smaller procedures cost less: reshaping the tip averages $7,724 and narrowing the nostrils (alarplasty) $2,820.
A non-surgical nose job uses filler injections to smooth a bump or soften angles. It averages $1,381, but the result is temporary, lasting roughly eight to 16 months (CareCredit).
What else affects the price
Where you live
The average open rhinoplasty ranges from $7,912 in Mississippi to $11,130 in California. Washington, D.C. ($10,821) and Hawaii ($10,444) are also at the top.
The surgeon and the facility
Fees vary with the surgeon's experience and specialty. Rhinoplasty is done by board-certified plastic surgeons and by facial plastic surgeons trained in ear, nose and throat surgery. Ask whether the quote includes the anesthesia, the operating room and follow-up visits; some published figures cover the surgeon's fee alone.
Does insurance cover a nose job?
Not when it is cosmetic: the cost of rhinoplasty done to change how the nose looks is not covered by insurance. Insurance may cover part of the surgery when it corrects a functional problem, such as a deviated septum that blocks breathing, or a defect caused by disease or injury; you may still owe a copay, coinsurance or deductible (CareCredit). A septoplasty to straighten the septum is often done at the same time. Cosmetic rhinoplasty is also not an HSA-eligible expense (CareCredit, IRS Publication 502).
Is rhinoplasty cheaper abroad?
Often. Turkey, Mexico and South Korea are the main destinations for Americans, and the table above shows the range our partner clinics in each country quote. Two things to weigh: you will need follow-up at home while the swelling settles over months, and a revision, if needed, is the most expensive type of nose surgery in Synchrony's data. Read our guides to rhinoplasty in Turkey, Mexico and South Korea.
How to compare rhinoplasty quotes
- Ask whether the price covers the surgeon, anesthesia and operating room, or the surgeon's fee alone.
- Ask whether the plan is open or closed, and whether cartilage grafts may be needed.
- Check the surgeon's board certification in plastic surgery or facial plastic surgery.
- Look at before-and-after photos of noses like yours, from the same surgeon.
- Ask how the surgeon handles a revision and what it would cost.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a nose job in the U.S.?

How much does a non-surgical nose job cost?
About $1,381 on average. It uses filler to smooth a bump or soften angles, and the result lasts roughly eight to 16 months.

Correcting an earlier operation is more complex than a first rhinoplasty. It averages $14,574 in the U.S., the highest of any nose procedure in Synchrony's 2026 data.
Which state has the cheapest rhinoplasty?
In Synchrony's 2026 data the average open rhinoplasty is lowest in Mississippi ($7,912), Arkansas ($7,945) and Alabama ($8,057), and highest in California ($11,130), Washington, D.C. ($10,821) and Hawaii ($10,444).
