Mini, full or extended

How much does a tummy tuck cost? It depends first on the type. Tummy tuck surgery (abdominoplasty) removes excess skin and excess fat from the abdomen and usually tightens the abdominal muscles. How much is done sets the price:

  • Mini tummy tuck, for loose skin below the belly button: $6,247 on average.
  • Full tummy tuck, above and below the belly button with muscle repair: $7,983.
  • Extended tummy tuck, which also takes in the flanks and lower back: $12,488.

These averages come from Synchrony's 2023–2024 study. Its 2026 survey, published with its mommy makeover data, puts the average tummy tuck at $8,777, ranging from $5,909 to $15,150, so prices have risen.

What else affects the price

Where you live

State averages run from $6,708 in Alabama to $13,133 in Hawaii, with Washington, D.C. ($10,362) and California ($9,819) also near the top.

Combined procedures

Many patients add liposuction or a breast procedure, especially after pregnancy. Combining several procedures in a "mommy makeover" raises the total; Synchrony's 2026 midrange estimate for a mommy makeover is $34,189.

What the quote includes

Ask whether the price includes anesthesia, the surgery center, compression garments and follow-up visits. Abdominoplasty is usually an outpatient procedure taking one to five hours (CareCredit).

Does insurance cover a tummy tuck?

No. A tummy tuck is cosmetic, so insurance does not pay for it and it is not eligible for HSA reimbursement (CareCredit, IRS Publication 502). A related operation, panniculectomy, which removes a large apron of skin after major weight loss, may be covered when it is medically necessary.

Is a tummy tuck cheaper abroad?

Often, especially in Mexico and Turkey; the table above shows what our partner clinics quote. A tummy tuck has a longer recovery than most cosmetic procedures, so plan to stay near the clinic for the first checks, ask about the risk of blood clots on a long flight home, and arrange follow-up with a doctor in the U.S. before you go, as the CDC advises. See our guides to tummy tucks in Mexico, Turkey and Thailand.

How to compare tummy tuck quotes

  1. Make sure every quote is for the same type: mini, full or extended.
  2. Ask whether anesthesia, the facility and garments are included.
  3. Check that the plastic surgeon is board certified in plastic surgery.
  4. Compare the total cost, not the surgeon's fee alone.
  5. Ask about drains, recovery time and when you can travel or return to work.
  6. Ask what a scar revision would cost if you need one, and how the surgeon expects to protect your tummy tuck results over time.
