How much does a tummy tuck in Korea cost?
xcuro's partner clinics in Korea quote $3,600 to $12,905 for a tummy tuck. In the United States, a tummy tuck typically costs $6,000 to $12,000 including the surgeon, anesthesia and the surgery center (Cherry, 2026). So, as with breast surgery, Korea is not automatically cheaper: one quote is well below the U.S. range, the other two are in it or above it, before you add a flight of about $900 to $1,600.
| Clinic | City | Quote listed on xcuro |
|---|---|---|
| ID Plastic Surgery | Seoul | from $3,600 |
| VIP Plastic Surgery | Jeju | $8,604 to $12,905 |
| JK Plastic Surgery | Seoul | from $12,600 |
All three are xcuro partners; the prices are the quotes they gave us, shown with each clinic's ratings in the table above. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons publishes a lower U.S. figure, $8,174, but that is the surgeon's fee alone, without anesthesia or the operating room, so compare a Korean quote with an all-in U.S. quote.
What moves the price
- Mini or full tummy tuck. A mini tummy tuck treats only the area below the navel; a full one treats the whole abdomen, tightens separated muscles and moves the navel.
- Liposuction or other surgery at the same time.
- Nights in the clinic, follow-up visits and compression garments.
What the price usually includes — and what to confirm
Korean clinics usually quote the operation itself. Before you pay a deposit, ask each clinic for a written list that answers:
- Are anesthesia, the operating room, pre-op tests and the first night after surgery included?
- How many follow-up visits, drain removal and stitch removal are included?
- Are compression garments and medication to take home included?
- Is there an interpreter, and are airport transfers or a hotel part of the price?
Flights, hotel nights while you recover and travel insurance are usually extra.
Recovery and how long to stay
Plan on about two weeks in Korea. Drains usually come out within the first week, and the CDC advises delaying air travel for 10 to 14 days after major surgery, because flying after surgery raises the risk of blood clots. VIP Plastic Surgery is on Jeju island, so add the domestic flight to and from Seoul to your plan. On the long flight home, walk often and ask the surgeon about clot prevention.
Risks to discuss
A tummy tuck is a major operation under general anesthesia. The most common problem is a seroma, a pocket of fluid under the skin, which is why drains are used; blood clots are the most serious risk, and a long flight soon after surgery adds to it. Smokers heal markedly worse, so surgeons ask you to stop several weeks before and after surgery. It leaves a scar low across the abdomen, usually hidden by underwear. A tummy tuck is not a weight-loss operation: surgeons want your weight to be stable first.
Protect yourself in Korea
Since September 25, 2023, Korean clinics that operate on unconscious patients must have cameras in the operating room, and you can ask for your surgery to be recorded; a clinic may refuse only for narrow reasons, in writing, and footage is kept for at least 30 days (PMC). In Korea, cosmetic procedures are also offered by doctors from other specialties, so check that your surgeon is a board-certified plastic surgeon and a member of the Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, and confirm in writing who will operate.
Getting there
U.S. passport holders need no visa for short visits and no K-ETA through December 31, 2026; an electronic arrival card is required. Nonstop flights to Seoul take about 13 hours from Los Angeles and over 15 from New York (Kayak). The State Department rates South Korea Level 1, “Exercise Normal Precautions”.
Insurance and taxes
A cosmetic tummy tuck is not covered by U.S. health insurance, and the IRS does not treat cosmetic surgery as a medical expense (IRS Publication 502). The CDC notes that follow-up care for complications can be expensive and might not be covered by your health insurance.

Before you travel: what the CDC recommends
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention publishes guidance for Americans travelling abroad for medical care. These are its recommendations, not ours.
- Check the qualifications of the clinician who will perform the procedure and the credentials of the facility.
- Bring copies of your medical records, including lab and other test results related to your condition.
- Make sure you can get follow-up care in the United States. Care for complications can be expensive and might not be covered by your health insurance.
- Obtain international travel health insurance that covers medical evacuation back to the United States.
- See your own healthcare provider 4–6 weeks before the trip to discuss risks specific to your health.

What the research says about tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)
14 peer-reviewed sourcesAbdominoplasty, commonly called a tummy tuck, removes excess abdominal skin and fat and can repair separated abdominal muscles (rectus diastasis), often after pregnancy or significant weight loss. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses report high patient satisfaction and improvements in abdominal contour, with much of the research focused on reducing complications such as seroma through techniques like progressive tension sutures, drains, and tissue-sealing devices. The literature also addresses safety considerations, including venous thromboembolism prevention and the added risk when abdominoplasty is combined with other procedures or performed in patients with comorbidities. Compression garments, pain-management strategies, and revision indications are likewise examined in peer-reviewed studies.
