VIDA Wellness and Beauty Center in Tijuana publishes $6,500 for a breast lift and $7,000 for a lift with implants. Hospital VELMAR in Ensenada lists a breast lift package from $5,199, including Motiva implants and one night in hospital. Lift, implants or both
A breast lift (mastopexy) raises and reshapes breasts that have sagged after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss, by removing excess skin and moving the nipple higher. It does not add volume; if you also want fuller breasts, it is combined with implants. Scars usually go around the areola and down to the breast crease, and fade over a year or more. Ask whether the implant brand is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (Allergan, Mentor, Sientra and Motiva are) and for the implant card.
Types of breast lift
- Crescent or periareolar (“donut”) lift: an incision around the areola, for mild sagging.
- Vertical (“lollipop”) lift: around the areola and straight down to the crease, for moderate sagging.
- Anchor lift: adds an incision along the breast crease, for significant sagging or large breasts.
What the price includes
Ask whether the quote covers the surgeon, anesthesia, the hospital night, pre-operative medical tests, implants if used, the support bra, follow-up visits and transport. VELMAR's listed package includes the hospital stay, lab tests, implants and airport transportation.
Recovery and how long to stay
Plan on about a week nearby. You wear a support bra for several weeks and avoid heavy lifting for about a month. From Tijuana, the trip home can be a short drive.
How to check your surgeon in Mexico
Plastic surgeons in Mexico are certified by the Consejo Mexicano de Cirugía Plástica, Estética y Reconstructiva (CMCPER); you can look surgeons up in its directory. Every doctor also needs a professional license (cédula profesional) listed in the government registry. VIDA's facility in Tijuana is accredited by QUAD A, a U.S. accreditation body for surgery centers.
Getting there and back
Fly into San Diego, or into Tijuana and use the Cross Border Xpress bridge. Coming back by land you need a U.S. passport, passport card, enhanced driver's license or a trusted-traveler card such as SENTRI. Hospital VELMAR is in Ensenada, about 1.5 hours' drive south of Tijuana.
Insurance and taxes
Cosmetic surgery is not covered by U.S. health insurance, and the IRS does not treat it as a medical expense (IRS Publication 502). The CDC warns that treating complications after surgery abroad can be expensive and may not be covered by your U.S. plan.
